Hello @Yann,

I got from the Museum as well as from the author Lisa Rastl the permission that the pics are used on Wikipedia in context with the Wien Museum. I am not sure which copyright status from Wikimedia is used in this situation. Thanks for your help! Citius Altius Fortius (talk) 09:47, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Citius Altius Fortius: Hi, There are 2 issues: 1. You didn't add a license to the files. Please do so, or they will be deleted after a week. 2. Lisa Rastl must send a permission for a free license via COM:VRT. Please read COM:THIRD for a detailed information. Thanks, Yann (talk) 10:40, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question regarding copyvio

I appear to be misusing the copyvio tag, since two recent files I've tagged as copyvios have been moved to regular deletion discussions. Do you have any advice on the use of the copyvio tag? Raskuly (🐰) 20:52, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Raskuly: Hi, Which file is this about? Yann (talk) 21:04, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, this one.[1] Same thing recently happened with this file.[2] Raskuly (🐰) 21:05, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Raskuly: Yes, some people claim it is in the public domain because it is a CCTV footage, so it is not eligible for speedy deletion. Yann (talk) 21:25, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I won't add the copyvio tag to files which have CCTV footage in them any more. Raskuly (🐰) 21:29, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

San Siro banners

Hi Yann, I think that the only DW of a banner above ToO is File:1908 commedia.jpg. What should I do? Friniate (talk) 22:30, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Friniate: OK, deleted. Yann (talk) 22:34, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Misidentified film

Hi Yann, File:Daag (1952) by Amiya Chakravarty.webm appears to be from the 1973 film rather than the 1952 one. Saroj (talk) 11:50, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Saroj: Ah yes. Deleted. Thanks for noticing. Yann (talk) 20:47, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the quick action. I have uploaded File:Pyaasa (1957).webm. Could you please check if the license is fine? I am planning to upload more Hindi films in the coming days. Saroj (talk) 10:26, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Saroj: Unfortunately Indian films from that time are in the public domain in India, but not in USA, unless they were screened in USA at the same time as in India. So they could be deleted from Commons. Yann (talk) 10:57, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification and for checking. I'll keep that in mind before uploading more films to avoid licensing issues. Saroj (talk) 12:11, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

returning my file

can you please explain why did you remove the photo that shows me? i also use it in my userpage. so, when people put themselves in their userpage, they are trolling huh? i just over-censored myself and put it here. you dont even nominated it? you should return. i will do every neccesarry action to save my file. modern_primat ඞඞඞ ----TALK 18:33, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

someone marked it for speedy deletion(months before, it was nominated and we kept it) and you deleted it unfortunantly. im sorry, i thought you just see my photo and misunderstand the concept of it. and interestingly i didnt get notification for it when you deleted.
the concept is: me, the graffitti(it says there is no god in turkish, people draw line at "there is no", so it says only "god". it shows how turkey censoring religious critism). i just also didnt want to show myself.. i uploaded (and wikimedia projects are using them) hundreds of files. one or two personal photos on my page shouldnt disturb here. so, please help me and cut the time that we gonna waste when it return eventually. modern_primat ඞඞඞ ----TALK 16:38, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
OK, fine, restored. Yann (talk) 16:46, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! You have flagged several images I've uploaded over the years as copyright violations. All of them were supplied by the people featured in them and uploaded according to the Wikimedia Commons rules at the time. I'm not sure why these are being brought up now but I do not necessarily have access to the relevant people to find the correct permissions at this point in time. BallerLondon (talk) 09:24, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@BallerLondon: Hi, If you are not the photographer, you need a formal written permission from the copyright holder, who is by default the photographer, not the subject. If the copyright has been transferred, which can only happen in writing, we will need a proof of that. Please see COM:VRT for the procedure, and COM:THIRD for a detailed information. Yann (talk) 10:04, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have forwarded the written permission documentation to the permissions-commons@wikipedia.org email address as requested. It would be helpful if there was a way to upload said documentation directly through the image upload wizard when it comes to third-party images. BallerLondon (talk) 10:15, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@BallerLondon: The permission has to come directly from the copyright holder, because we have had many fake emails. It cannot be uploaded for the same reason, and also because it often contains privacy information. Yann (talk) 10:20, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Image

Hello Yann, how is this logo: File:MBP Moto S.r.l. logo.png a copyvio..? I had used proper license tags: PD-textlogo and Trademark..
--Gpkp (talk) 06:56, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gpkp: Hi, I don't think it is PD-textlogo, specially the laurels. Yann (talk) 08:34, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election

Greetings,

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.

This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.

The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

In partnership with the U4C -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:30, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Keegan (WMF): Hi, Thanks for your message. I am honoured, but I won't candidate. Adminship on Commons is already very straining, and I would like to spend more time for content, and less time for administrative duty. Regards, Yann (talk) 22:04, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
