Hi! I used your excellent picture http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Barefoot_horses_on_rocky_trail.jpg for the main page of edition 363 of my online horse magazine. See http://pferdezeitung.com/363.06 - the main article deals with the recommendation of Prof. Cook regarding Strasser's work on hoof care. Thanks a lot! --Werner Popken 17:27, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I used your excellent picture http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Bare_hooves_prints.jpg for the main page and main article of edition 364 of my online horse magazine. See http://pferdezeitung.com/364.06 and http://pferdezeitung.com/Hauptartikel/364 - it deals with the open letter of Prof. Cook regarding Strasser's work on hoof care. Thanks a lot! --Werner Popken 17:27, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

@Werner Popken I'm really happy that my picture turned out useful. Our beloved mare Ami would be happy too. :-) Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 22:37, 1 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026

[edit]

Hello! I noticed you're a bot operator, so I thought you might be interested in a hackathon we're organizing: the Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026, on 13–14 March in Arnhem, Netherlands.

It's a two-day, technically oriented hackathon bringing together Wikimedians from the region. Whether you want to work on bot frameworks, tools, or other technical projects, this could be a great opportunity to collaborate with fellow developers. Registration closes mid-January or when full. Let me know if there are any questions. Hope to see you there! Daanvr (talk) 09:11, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Daanvr Thanks, but I'm a low level bot operator... just waiting for first warns of senile mental deterioration :-) Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 13:06, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
hi @Alex brollo, no worries, I’m not here to grade anyone’s bot-operator level ;)
If you have a technical project you’d like to work on and you feel like meeting other technical Wikimedians, you’re very welcome to register. Just to set expectations: this hackathon isn’t a training event, so we won’t be offering courses or 1:1 assistance as an official part of the program.
That said, hacking on your own project alongside people with a wide range of experience is usually the fun part, and who knows, a weekend of coding with others might be the best antidote to any first signs of senile mental deterioration ;) Daanvr (talk) 13:20, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
