User:Mastercane_FRX9500S evading block to request unblock here

[edit]

[1] - on the English Wikipedia, User:Mastercane_FRX9500S was blocked for edit warring and inappropriate talk page comments. After agreeing to take the standard offer (six months of no editing before requesting unblock), Mastercane requested unblocking again, causing them to lose access to their talk page. Since then, the same user requested another unblock request from an alt account (that had previously been blocked), and now, the user reached out to me on Commons. I'm not sure if it should be a universal block or just on commons, but I wanted to report it at least. Hurricanehink (talk) 20:27, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

They should certainly be blocked here for importing drama from another wiki. As far as I'm concerned, the only question is whether this should be a six-month block or an indef-block. I'll impose the six-month block right now but if anyone wants to increase that to indef, or to take away talk page access on Commons as well, I have no problem with that. - Jmabel ! talk 04:21, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wrong file name

[edit]

File:DH 350-370 (EMD GT26CW-2) of ONCF between Taourirt and Melg el Ouidane, Morocco.jpg

It shows a locomotive of ONCF class DF 115, not one of its american born collegues. I was able to correct description text, but not the file name. Yours sincerely ~2026-25336-87 (talk) 23:18, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Now in this only case I will do it. But not once again. I didn't found that tool at the start page and a full time academic study of Wiki rules is to much for an occasional contributor. The too much complicated handling of the project is not effective for sharing my knowledge and resulted in deleting my accounts some years ago. Have a nice weekend.~2026-25336-87 (talk) 23:36, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, both tools are not usefull for a knowledge sharer. I can't handle it and don't use it. Sugestion for a proper file name here: "DF 115 of ONCF between Taourirt and Melg el Ouidane, Morocco.jpg" Take it or leave it. Best wishes. ~2026-25336-87 (talk) 23:45, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Fix for upload form (for int. admin)

[edit]

Can any Interface Admin fix the upload form, please? Thanks. I've added simple instructions, so you don't need to know anything about that script. I've already tested the solution. I'm an interface admin on plwiki and Meta, to verify me, see: Special:CentralAuth/Nux.

Request for a fix of the upload form.

Blocking of temporary accounts

[edit]

Hi, Before temporary accounts, there was no point to block dynamic IP addresses for a long time. But now, temporary accounts can last up to 3 months. So how long should we block these accounts when their edits do fit within Commons policies? Yann (talk) 22:10, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

If the appropriate block is less than 3 months, then use the appropriate block. Otherwise, I just go for indef, no use thinking about just when the account will expire. - Jmabel ! talk 23:21, 26 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I tend to treat temp account as if they are time-bound regular account. Unlike IPs, temp accounts is bound to their browser/app (not IP) and can be reused across IPs (ie. Public Wifi at Cafe, cell IPs while moving, home wifi, etc etc…) so it can be treated like a regular account, just that we do not need CU bit to see their IPs. — regards, Revi 01:56, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Requested rename of protected file

[edit]

There is a rename request at File:April 2026 White House 2026 White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting suspect entering hotel.webm. The page is protected and I can't perform the move. I was thinking of moving it to File:CCTV footage of the April 2026 White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting suspect entering the secure area near the ballroom.webm. A more descriptive name that also removes what appears to be a redundancy in the current name. If anyone has a better choice for the name, plz do suggest and an admin is requested to carry this out. If someone wants to shorten my version, we can use WH instead of White House. That would do it by a bit. Thank you. Shaan SenguptaTalk 17:22, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Shaan Sengupta: Good name suggestion. For the protection: The file is protected on zhWP. That means CommonsDelinker will not change filenames in that language versions. The best is, just wait some days, as soon as the file has disappeared from the main page of zhWP. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 20:02, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Processing file deletion requests

[edit]

I've requested some deletions over the past couple of weeks: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AContributions&target=PhotographyEdits&namespace=4&tagfilter=&start=&end=&limit=50

At least compared to Wikipedia, these requests are processed quite slow. Is there something I can do to speed up this process? I'd like to get this done. As far as I understand deleting is not something I can do unless I become an administrator, contrary to other tasks that have separate permissions that can be requested. I have nothing against becoming an administrator, but I don't think I have enough experience for it yet. PhotographyEdits (talk) 22:37, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@PhotographyEdits: Per COM:DR, "There are 11050 open deletion requests, the oldest being 227 days old." Please wait your turn.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 22:43, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Bot glitch

Request served via cp6004 cp6004, Varnish XID 907194313 Upstream caches: cp6004 int Error: 429, Too many requests. Please respect our robot policy https://w.wiki/4wJS. (d825246) at Tue, 28 Apr 2026 05:15:35 GMT ~2026-25766-17 (talk) 05:21, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

In the past, when I used to browse articles on Wikipedia, often several images would be missing, sometimes all of them, from a page, no matter the platform, browser, or network. At first, I thought it was bad internet connection; later I learned it was because I was allegedly "misusing" or "abusing" servers, according to an error message. Occasionally, it would help to refresh the website, but not too often. This would happen both on my home network and also if I was on some other wi-fi.

Now, pictures in the articles are back, but whenever I try to load the full resolution one, I get this error message: Error: 429, Too many requests. Please respect our robot policy https://w.wiki/4wJS It's been persisting for 12 hours, so, effectively, I can't view any full-res picture on Wikimedia, regardless of whether I am logged in or not.

Also, the error message says "If you report this error to the Wikimedia System Administrators [...]" with no link on how to report, so I googled how to report errors to Wikimedia, hence why I am posting it here.

Please help, I am not a bot!

@Vicky van Dal: For context see here. In short, during April and May 2026 new ratelimits are applyied which are much more stringent that before. Me guessing, due to AI Companies harvesting all all Wikimedia and not using Dumps. I see the same with my @SchlurcherBot that now quite often hits the Rate Limits (which is kind of expected with 100 edits per minute) and I'm still working on the necessary adjustments. In your case you may want to reach out to the e-mail given in Get Help section and explain your case. As you have relatievly few recent edits, the software may have put you in the new user bucket with very low limits. --Schlurcher (talk) 07:01, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Delete because frivolous" is not policy.
Nor is your regular claim "I can call for the deletion of years-old content that was licensed by the author and uploader at the time, by retrospectively demanding VRT as well." We have no such policy, it has never been our regular practice. Andy Dingley (talk) 14:24, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nobody can. The blog have been privated and there is no evidence of permission. The uploader explicitly claimed not to be the person behind the blog Trade (talk) 16:44, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
then this is delete as no evidence of free license (unless the blog is archived somewhere) All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:47, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It was archived neither at archive.org nor at archive.is. --Túrelio (talk) 18:28, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah these photos should never have been allowed to stay without evidence of permission for so long Trade (talk) 22:30, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Our policy is that we take uploader's claims at face value, unless there is reason to doubt otherwise. We do, where this is practical (FlickrReview), automatically check this, but we do so at the time.
There is no policy, despite your regular claims that there is and your repeated deletions on this basis, that we can suddenly decide, years later, to arbitrarily delete content on a whim by revoking AGF for the uploader's original claim. Andy Dingley (talk) 22:55, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
So why should we assume good faith from 10 years ago that can no longer be verified in any way rather than trust the uploader statement now that they do not remember even who took the photos? Will you and @Dronebogus explain why you totally failed to assume any good faith in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Edward Myer and made total nonsense statements in Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems/Archive 122#User:Edward Myer? Put in perspective how insane it is you want to AGF for something with 0 evidence from 10 years ago and didn't want to believe something with clear and current verifiable license at the time!! REAL 💬 01:51, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
When someone takes photos from random Tumblr blogs and either can't or won't provide any evidence of the license they claim to exist despite being asked to do so, AGF have been broken. Trade (talk) 11:39, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hospiceaastha's continued advertisement/promotional uploads

[edit]

Hospiceaastha (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information)
Continues to upload promotional/advertisement images which are clearly out of project scope despite warning. Was warned at Revision #674900214 by @Achim55 to which they replied Dear this is not advertisement these are achievements at Revision #675050300. We are not a platform to hosts someone's achievements. The user clearly doesn't understand the scope of this project. I will start a mass DR if that's needed bcoz we may keep some images that have prominent Indian politicians like Yogi Adityanath and Anandiben Patel. There have been previous deletions too for same/other reasons. I am knowingly not informing the user bcoz of the reply I have highlighted above. If someone still wants, plz do so. Shaan SenguptaTalk 05:17, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Shaan Sengupta: Plenty of the images do seem to have an educational value and must be kept. The revision you supplied is from 2022. I think a warning should suffice that one should not upload images that seemingly come across as promotion of the drives run by a certain hospital. signed, Aafi (talk) 06:38, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
but I see plenty of unattended warnings. signed, Aafi (talk) 06:39, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Images with prominent politicians, as I said can be kept, or others which show some significant event. There were/are uploads of charity, patient care, etc which hold no educational value here. The doctor and the hospital have an article on enwiki, so we can keep images which can be of some use there. Rest, I don't see much value. And yes the revision link is old but was used only to show approach to the project and the thinking. Shaan SenguptaTalk 06:46, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Very few images are actually in use. While I realise that the subject is notable I don't think he's that notable. This feel like using the project as a web host as much as anything. Herby talk thyme 07:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes. There are many more that need to be deleted. The pattern of uploads seen here is for social media not Commons. Uploading images of every meet and events at the organisation, you do this on social media. Shaan SenguptaTalk 07:23, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
We now have more images 1, 2 and 3 possibly celebrating/highlighting his son's success in examinations. These uploads came after I warned them with {{No selfies}}. The user clearly didn't get the message that his ain't a personal web host. Moving closer to NOTHERE. Shaan SenguptaTalk 11:10, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've started the ball rolling and deleted the latest uploads. To me this is a vanity project given the titles of the images. Sure some are definitely keepable but even the categories are a bit random at times and the main personal category should go too. Much of this is simply personal web hosting. Thanks for the report.
